« on: November 06, 2009, 04:36:05 PM »
There plenty of  stuff for ANXIETY eg prescripation drugs, herbal teas, food etc.
But what is there for WORRY if anything, not including stuff that probably only works as a placecebo, eg Dr Bachs?

Also what is there for UPSET if anything not including stuff that problay only works as a placecebo, eg Dr Bachs?
Also what is there for FEAR if anything not including stuff that problay only works as a placecebo, eg Dr Bachs?

I tried the Bach flower remedies without any obvious positive effect. It was worth a try I suppose.  :-\

Is there a difference between worry and fear? I'm not sure.

I can't think of anything that's been an instant help for me with these things except maybe camomile tea or something similar. That did seem to help me a bit but, as a non tea/coffee drinker, maybe I also got some comfort from taking ten minutes out of life to hold a lovely warm mug. For me, placebo or not, the important thing is that I get some kind of beneficial effect I guess.

I'm trying now to eat more healthily than I used to. I often found myself trying to control my mood with sugary foods and I became really addicted to it. I avoid caffeine as much as possible.... I don't need a boost! I'm doing my best to eat sunflower seeds and nuts for their long term energy release, hopefully without the peaks and troughs I used to get, and their beneficial oil content. It also seems to stop my sugary cravings.

Anyone else have any thoughts?  :)

My care worker once told me kiwi fruit is a natural anti-depressant. Eating lots of fruit and veg and getting exercise also helps (as usual). Other than that... I'm afraid it's probably actual anti-depressants.

Hi Chrisfm, Banannas are meant to be good natural source of serotonin and companies like Neals Yard have a range of dried herbs and tinctures etc that purport to help with things like:

Worry - red chestnut (excessive worry about loved ones) or white chestnut (constant worrys/mental arguments) or olive healing herbs (exhausted from prolonged worry, illness grief etc)

Fear - courage flower essence blend (panicky feelings, fright, specific and irrational fears etc), Larch healing herb (fearing failure)

Upset - Pulsatilla 30C Helios Homeopathic Remedy (when ill or upset children and adults)

Well think that's enough of me promoting Neals Yard, Honest i don't work for them!, but they do seem to have a wide range of items claiming to address specific conditions but they do seem to be a reputable company. I just went onto their website www.nealsyardremedies.com and typed in keywords in the search box. There's also Chinese Herbal medicine that you might want to look into?

I'm not sure about any of the above as I've only ever tried bach's flower remedy and didn't really notice much difference. Think some people may be more sensitive to some of the natural remedies available. I eat lots of fresh fruit and veg and exercise quite a lot - I think it makes a difference? I do think good nutrition and hydration is a very important aspect of our wellbeing and an interesting area in it's own right.

My personal view is that anxiety, depression and other feelings and emotions are much more complex than any off the shelf remedy can realistically address. However, I can't advise on what's best for you or anyone else just my experiences to date and the knowledge that we're all wonderfully different - 'one man's meat is another man's poison' and all that.

Sorry bit of a long reply  ::), and not clear cut  ??? but interesting for me to research too, it's a big area - might even give something a try  :) good luck and I'd be interested to hear if you've found anything that helped.  :)
