Bricking it!
« on: April 05, 2011, 01:01:31 PM »
A while ago I mentioned in passing that it might be a god idea to hold a music technology workshop for the homeless people where I volunteer. Great.... but I'm running it and it's tomorrow!

There's not enough working equipment so I'm taking my soldering iron with me to fix the requisite amplifier - if I can't fix that then it's not happening. What I'm doing feels right but oh so incredibly anxiety provoking. Expect to see me at the meet tomorrow, after the workshop, carrying lots of stuff and looking frazzled.

I must be mad to do this but I know it's a huge step in the right direction. Face the fear.... then tell it to get stuffed! Gulp!  ;D

As Susan Jeffers says 'feel the Fear and do it anyway!' - love the whole fear thing - as in it tells you you're alive, challenging and therefore maybe changing. Must look out Jeffers fear truths and post them but think I may have laready done this in a previous post. Go for it birdman!  ;D

You can do this Noisy! You have faced so many challenges lately, and all these things are empowering you to move forward! You've also developed awesome fighting spirit over time and know that giving things a go is better than not trying at all. Also helping others is also a great way to help yourself and build up your confidence, so it's win win. Try not to over think things (what I "try" to do)and just go for it, so what if things don't go according to plan? You'll pull something off I'm sure, you are a uber techie geek after all hehe!

Also remember the way that we feel inside isn't always the way that we come across to others, you give a really "together" and "confidant" impression, so acting the part is also good and helps to divert attention from ones self.

Am loving your advise Stress Puppy, positive change and moving forward is the way to go!

Best wishes for tomorrow, and no matter what happens you can always say that you have tried your best!

but think of all the exciting tools you get to hang out with...will you have a tool belt?? I'm a bit jealous.

I think your workshop sounds fab, just take deeep breaths, say a few prays to the God of amplifiers and rock on.

Fingers crossed for you sir  ;)

Sorry for not replying sooner guys but things have been very hectic before, during and since!

Firstly, I'd like to say that as forum admin I'm not always comfortable with sharing my troubles online for some reason..... but I'm so glad that I did and I will from now on. Promise! I think it's fair to say I've been lacking a bit of support in my life of late and reading your encouraging replies was a huge boost for me.

The workshop went really well! There was lots going on but I don't think I really got phased at any point which was quite unexpected and your words of encouragement echoed around my head whenever I began to doubt myself. On the strength of that first workshop I've been commissioned to do more.... well quite a lot more actually as well as a few other technical but unrelated things. Let's just say it's progress and I'm finally finding places to use my diverse skills.

Thank you!  :)
