Hi, Is there anything that you feel is missing from this site?

Let us know in this thread or you could even start a whole new topic.

Yes, personally I'd like to see Keanu with his kit off!  Is that kind of along the sort of lines you were meaning?

Polls within posts would be good. I don't think it's an option here unless I've missed it.

Hi Interloper,

Yes indeed that facility is already available. Next to the button to start a new topic you should also see 'Post new poll'. I know it's not very intuitive but posting a new poll will also start a new 'topic'.
At the moment, for reasons beyond my control, only admins can add a poll to an existing topic.

Best wishes,
Martin.  Smiley

Thanks Martin, I thought there should be one but I'm not overly familiar with Simple Machines plus I'm not getting any 'tooltips' or messages in the status bar when I hover over various buttons, but I put that down being a browser issue with Opera.

No, unforunately that's an issue with the forum software. There's been a new version in development for ages now and I wonder if they'll include that facility. I'll look into that later.
I'm looking forward to more search engine friendly URLs in SMF 2.0. I'd like Google to list us above as many commercial sites as possible.  Wink

Have you looked at the Pretty URLs mod? It's an active project plus it's compatible with v1.1.8.
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=636

There are other options of course, but in the past I've found just slogging away at getting reciprocal links at relevant sites and thereby more members continually posting will ultimately work best. I found you via your No More Panic post.

Or this, SMF Mod Site.
Sorry, I'm not being pushy am I? I'm just a bit of an obsessive problem solver.

Yeah, I've tried the pretty URL's mod but I couldn't get it to work (it broke all the internal links iiirc) so I'll wait patiently for the next release since that has something similar built in. I've had a few problems with installing mods before and I've spent way too much time fixing stuff that I've broken. I always go one tweak too far!  Shocked  Having said that ...... I am very tempted to try SMF 2.0RC1.

We're doing alright for inbound links I think but more would be nice. I'm not overly obsessive about search engine rankings but it's certainly nice to be near the top. There are plans to expand the front end of the site with more anxiety related information and that should be nice food for the search engines to chomp on.

k...

I gotta suggestion, feel free to ignore ifya think its rubbish.

How about a kind of blog/journal section? Not anything major.. just a board where people can start their own journals, and others can reply, or not reply or whatever. Like for me I spend a lot of times on forums not knowing quite what to say, but at the same time wanting to be part of things.... and I like blogs, because its basically talking to yourself, like sharing yourself without imposing on people by directing it to them... (which probably stems from SA, which is why I thought of it - lol).

Just an idea, thought maybe if people felt they knew each other a little better online them wimps like me might have more chance of making it to meets and things...

... but like I said, feel free to ignore :p

That's a great idea and I'm all for new ways to make it easier to post.
I've looked into adding dedicated blogging facilities but found that to be impractical. Why not start a new thread called 'Sky's Blog' in 'introduce yourself'? If/when there's enough interest from other people then we can dedicate a new board to the idea. As a small forum, it can take a while for new ideas to take off so don't be disheartened if it takes a while for other's to do the same.  Smiley

I've considered writing a blog before but mine would be very boring!  Grin
