FILM! BAF personal favourites

Hi BAFers the idea for a BAF film list this grew from a thread about hypnosis and the belief that Film like Music can be quite a useful therapeutic medium. So post away with your favourites - feel free to explain why or not  - after all most things are open to personal interpretation and we all take different things from what we see and/or hear.

I'm going to start this off with one classic:

'It's a wonderful life' (1946) - you can use the link below to view a trailer and film details. It's pure emotional goo but think most would appreciate the message that we all matter and touch each others lives.

'Slapshot' (1977) - I love to laugh and believe it is so therapeutic this is one of the funniest non-pc films I'd ever seen - it's ain't pretty but I do remember crying with laughter! and here's the link - Enjoy!

'It's a wonderful life' (1946)

Lovely film. The Duke of Yorks usually show it at Christmas, so perhaps a BAF outing to the cinema on the cards? I haven't seen Slapshot I must look out for it.

I feel like a kid in a candy shop, I think I'm going to have to do two lists here. One where films I think are therapeutic/funny and the other, at risk of being the Fraser Crane of the forum (unless anyone else is bidding for the role  ), my personal favourites, which are a bit arty.

High Anxiety
This has to be at the top of my humour therapy list. Mel Brooks spoof of Hitchcock films. Just hilarious. Brooks is a newly appointed director of the Psychoneurotic Institute of the Very, Very Nervous.

Amelie
This is actually on both lists and probably the film I am most likely to watch to cheer myself up. If you don't mind subtitles, this is a most wonderful film about a character with social anxiety. It is very hard to make films about a sense of lonely isolation, without the film being depressing but this film manages to be beautiful, funny, wistful and still capture our atomized lives.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
This is a film about memories and a love story in chronological reverse. Jim Carey plays an introvert and Kate Winslett an extrovert. I think it also brings out emotion for me as my mum suffers from dementia.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
You may have to be a Kevin Smith fan for this but it is an outrageous slapstick, stoner road movie. It is worth watching just for the most sophisticated fart joke of all time.

Stardust Memories
I felt I had to throw in a Woody Allen film and this is my favourite.

I find favourites change over time but these are pretty much my five top films:
La Dolce Vita, Donnie Darko, Amelie, Eternal Sunshine and Alphaville.

I've been meaning to post some of my favourites as soon as this thread started but I'm slacking so here's one for now:

Oldboy
After being kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years (and with no idea by who or why), Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must find his captor in 5 days.

This is one of those amazing films that has a little bit of everything in it. It's Korean but don't let that put you off the fight scene in the corridor is worth it on it's own. Great acting, great cinematography, stunning ending. One of my favourites for sure.

I'm not a horror film fan particularly but there is a film tonight that is a cult classic - Suspiria. Thought I'd mention it. I love the hypnotic effect of the film.

Note: This isn't very good for anxiety though as it is quite scary for some of us. I get scared easily.

Think I've heard of this and might have actually seen this film before - I love Horror I am a child of Hammer House of horror and armchair thriller - don't know why just like it - also like rollercoasters! maybe I'm addicted to Adrenaline rushes - Ha ha - stresspuppy the source of your anxiety is staying up too late in a darkened room being scared senseless by dodgy TV Horrors - Oh well I'm sorted then...

Anyone here seen Larry David in Woody Allen's 'Whatever Works' (new film) that is a good film, deep but uplifting too.

Scary movie, frightening the potential for how nature can turn against us AND as usual with Hitchcock it's so classy, beautiful cinematography as well as bucketloads of angst undertones

Blimey, thought I'd quickly check if anybody has posted on the forum expecting tumble weed - its like Piccadilly Circus!

Yeah, The Birds, great film. Read an interesting analysis that every death is due to fear of loss of love.

Also I think it is an analogy for a cold war nuclear war, made during the Cuban Missile Crisis 1962. There are a number of reasons that I think this including it is based on the Daphne du Maurier short story, set in Cornwall, which was written when the H-bomb was invented in 1952.

Although Hitchcock's treatment of Tippi Hedren was well dodgy. They were real birds in the close ups!
